Is Almond Milk Healthy?

Made from finely ground almonds and water, this beverage is low in calories, fat and cholesterol. While almond milk doesn’t taste like cow’s milk, it has it’s own light, nutty and crisp flavor that can enhance everything from smoothies, cereal, and family favorite dishes.

Almond milk is full of nutrients that extend beyond those found in cow’s milk. Almonds are naturally healthy and in milk form, are nutrient dense in magnesium, potassium and Vitamin E among others. Almond milk is a great alternative for people with dairy allergies. While soy milk is often associated with being a great dairy substitute, soy milk is full of sugar, is often found artificially flavored to taste like vanilla, and doesn’t have as many nutrients found naturally like almond milk does. To be fair, almond milk does come in added flavors such as vanilla or chocolate, but plain and regular flavors are widely available and have a sweet, nutty taste naturally.

In all, almond milk is one of the healthiest milk substitutes on the market and is certainly worth considering adding to your well-balanced diet. The only considerations for almond milk, is it is not safe for those with tree nut allergies since it does contain almonds, and should not be used as a substitute to breastfeeding or providing formula for infants. Being lactose free, gluten free, organic and having no casein, almond milk is a healthy beverage that is great for replacing cow’s milk in your daily lifestyle.
